PROYDE offers its social bases and society in general, the possibility of integrating into its Volunteer programs in its social headquarters (Local Volunteer) and in its Development Programs or Projects in countries of the South (International Volunteering).
See the sections: Volunteering in PROYDE and International Volunteering
Short-term International Volunteering
PROYDE understands as International Short-Term Volunteering the one that takes place for a period of between 1 and 3 months, generally in the European summer. It is carried out by groups that coexist and are formed before leaving for the place of action, are received by a Host Community and are integrated into a Program or Development Project already underway of which they are part for a few weeks.
Small People - International Youth Volunteering 1
The Short-Term Youth International Volunteer Program (Small People - International Youth Volunteer 2 ) is an opportunity to experience first-hand the reality of injustice in impoverished countries, assuming an important step in personal commitment to a better world.
This possibility is not a final experience, but part of a process of personal and, if possible, community growth and commitment.
Objectives of the Small People Program - International Youth Volunteering
Facilitate a community experience (in a group) that contributes to personal discernment, to the construction of critical thinking (it matters beforehand) and to the adoption of a solidary commitment, because it is not offered as a finalist experience (it matters later).
Sensitize before the reality North - South, constituting a formative experience for agents of sensitization.
Provide an intercultural exchange and encounter that favors solidarity bridges North - South, in a context of Lasallian fraternity.
Requirements for the participants
The Small People - International Youth Volunteer Program is aimed at young people between 16 and 21 years old with personal concerns and preferably with a commitment prior to the start of the process, in social movements and international solidarity, especially in the PROYDE Delegations. The young people will participate in the final process of the Program (stay in a community in the South) preferably with 18 years of age. Those who do it before, must have the consent of their parents, guardians or legal representatives. 3
Participants will have to meet a minimum of maturity, sensitivity and responsibility, committing to participate in the entire process of prior training.
The ability to work in groups will also be taken into account in the selection process.
Due to its mission, PROYDE offers this experience with a privileged character to young people from the Lasallian environment or who have links to La Salle.
Conditions in which you participate in the program
The experience will be developed through participation in the work of a Community in a Southern country, designated by PROYDE.
The tasks to be performed will be according to the profile of the participants and agreed upon with the Host Community before the experience.
The experience will be lived in a group of between four to twelve participants, who will always be accompanied by at least two people with experience in cooperation projects.
The Local and / or Territorial Delegations will ensure for each experience, some Responsible that will accompany the group of young people, before, during and after the experience. These Responsible will have previous experience of participation in International Volunteering.
The Short-Term Youth International Volunteer Projects (Small People - International Youth Volunteering), must, by their very nature, incorporate and involve at all times the three groups necessary for its realization: the young people, the fathers and mothers and the adult chaperones (specifically the teachers). This requires PROYDE to carry out information, training and participation actions, either jointly or separately with the three groups.
In PROYDE there is a follow-up group of the Program, made up of the Director, the Volunteer Responsible of each Territorial Delegation and by other persons with experience in International Volunteering appointed by PROYDE.
Training of the participants in the Small People Program
Participants in Small People - International Youth Volunteering will participate in periodic training meetings throughout two school years.
The formative experiences will include institutional training of PROYDE, on Development and Solidarity, Local and International Volunteering, etc. This training will be carried out from the Virtual Classroom, with the presence of PROYDE trainers and taking advantage of other training opportunities of the Local or Territorial Delegation and the environment. Volunteer activities in the Local Delegation to which they belong. Specific training for the work to be done, including techniques and dynamics of free time and language (English, French), if necessary.
Throughout the two preparatory courses, there will be at least three joint meetings of parents, children, accompanying adults and PROJECT, to address the following topics: What is the Lasallian NGO and its relationship with the Host Community; Attitudes and basic values to carry out the Small People Program - International Youth Volunteering; The project you are going to and the practical issues of logistics, travel, health, etc.
The group preparation work must include coexistence activities (one, at least, of medium / long duration). Training for personal knowledge and conflict resolution. Knowledge of health and prevention of endemic diseases in the volunteer area. Know the logistics issues: travel, luggage, etc. Preparation and execution of activities to obtain financing. In this aspect, they should be approached and posed in a way that encourages young people to be more austere; that they invite them to contribute by their means rather than asking their parents; that help effectively fund the project.
The previous training must also include knowledge of the country and region to which it will travel, as well as its social, political and economic reality. Knowledge of the Host Community, its leaders and the work they do. Knowledge and preparation of the organization of the work to be carried out.
Training of the people in charge of the Small People Group - International Youth Volunteering. The people in charge of the group are invited to follow the formation of International Short-Term Volunteering (Summer Volunteering). Carry out Level 1 of the Lasalianas NGDO Training Plan: Volunteering in Development Cooperation from a Christian - Lasallian perspective; to work Level 2 of the Lasalianas NGDO Training Plan: 10 key issues of Development Cooperation.
